Rutherford Green Team Rides Ahead…

June 16th, 2016 | Posted by Rutherford Green Team in Events | Projects

The Green Team has been active this spring on many Bicycle Activities around town.  With the funding provided by Sustainable Jersey and support of our local Mayor, Council, School Superintendent, School Board, Police, Public Works and Recreation Departments along with Parent and Green Team volunteers, we were happy to be a part of the Mayor’s Wellness Campaign Bike Rodeo for all district 3rd Graders.

BCB Community Bank generously provided new Bulldog Blue Helmets to all the children that participated.  Officer Ahearn and Det./SRO Alford Anderson helped fit the helmets.

The event focused on educating students on bicycling safely and respecting the rules of the road and each other as cyclists.  The event also involved teaching non-riders how to ride some for the very first time.  More than 20 riders learned how to ride over the 4 days!

First by removing the peddles then graduating to the other circuits like the Chaos Box, Avoidance Drills and Signals.  The end of the day brought a slow race – last one across the line without putting their food down wins.

Even some familiar faces got in on the race.
